How we have responded to challenges is the proof of our earthly purpose. The challenge is getting close enough to live it while it's occuring!

Today many people are miserable in their work. They are inundated by demands of their time, money and their souls. The philosopher once said, “work seldom fails to be its own reward.” But, the sentiment escapes most of us and leaves us wanting to be lottery winners, recipients of huge trust funds, or overnight successes in IPO issues. These, some think, equal freedom. Experience shows, however, that few beneficiaries of windfalls sustain happiness. Happiness just requires work. And most work at some point entails a level of business and life experience.

Many people are discovering they cannot depend on the regular salary from a job in an established company. For many, their apparent lifetime careers are in jeopardy. Company leadership, in the bind of survival, is reluctant to choose in favor of the the common good of the stakeholders. There are exceptions. Sometimes people leave (or are asked to leave) the security of a regular paycheck. Futurists says the United States is about to experience a shortage of labor—so it may be easier to find a job than ever before. These will be more job than career, however.

Some will set off to achieve a dream. They will even mortgage their home, or borrow from family members to do so. And they move out into the general direction of their idea. Sadly, statistically, these people lose all—and are forced to return to salaried situations. Those are the lucky ones.
